Critic Award winner
This dress was my Associate’s Fashion Design Capstone garment for the 2026 theme “Harmonic Threads”. The dress is inspired by the Ballet Russe and highlights the darker elements of ballet, such as the censorship and oppression of composers, the sexual and social mistreatment of dancers, and the beautiful art that shone through despite the darkness.
The dress has a satin twill bodice dyed with black tea and covered in hand-sewn vintage applique. It includes a French lining and hematite stone beaded chains on the neckline. The skirt is composed of a boned skirt structure with 10 yards of various shades of gathered, layered tulle on top to give dimension and a distressed look
